At the April and May 2012 Board meetings staff recommendations to award the Paratransit Eligibility ACCESS contract were discussed. The Board was going to accept the RTC’s staff recommendations to award the contract to a company out of state that would require applicants to use an online application and renewal process in place of the current paper application process. Not all individuals with disabilities have access to, or feel comfortable using a computer.
People First members went to testify against this and the fact that no individuals with disabilities were on the evaluation committee. Thanks to People First’s testimony, on July 20th the RTC introduced steps to address People First’s concerns including:
1) A new evaluation committee created with current users of RTC ACCESS and advocates for individuals with disabilities.
2) The new application process will include paper applications.
1/12/13 UPDATE: The RTC grant for Para-transit Eligibility ACCESS was re-awarded to the Continium.
